-     Direktnim pozivanjem bendova i

-     Bend izvodi autorske kompozicije,
http://www.barikada.com/svastara/2006/2006-05-22_giga_01.php

End of holiday - half-year status from Balkan Rock Council/Wired Network

Now it's time to restart the urban life after a summer of laying low. To make kind of a status, it's fair to sum up the achievements of BRC/Wired Network during spring and summer 2006.

BRC was actively involved in 2 significant festivals, as co-financer for “Trenchtown Festval” in Subotica, Serbia, and main organisation in partnership with URUK. for “NEOFEST” in Banja Luka , BiH.

“Trechtown” is a reggae festival placed in the forest, in very picturesque surroundings, and has been running for a couple of years as an annual event. BRC's contribution mainly financed bands for the festival, to help boost the quality of the program in order to attract audience, and to boost the multiethnicity of the festival program.

Trenchtown festival succeeded in attracting a rather impressive audience, and to carry out a 4 day festival on a very limited budget. I'm looking forward to Trenchtown next year. Check out www.trenchtown.org

“NEOFEST – International Summer Peace Festival” was a brand new star in the night for festival lovers in the Balkans. 3 days of music on 3 stages in Banja Luka's old castle. A Bosnian EXIT, some might say. With a broad selection of bands, DJ's and artists from BiH, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, France and Denmark. See details on www.neofest.info

As a well-organised festival with up to 6000 visitors per night, NEOFEST has the potential and ambition to become a major annual festival, which was our ambition from the beginning. So, See Ya in Banja Luka next summer!

Much more has happened, if U count the events of BRC's member organisations, but here it will be no one mentioned, none forgotten!

Third main achievement in BRC this summer was our successful transferring of complete rehearsal-room equipment, also fully functional as stage equipment for concerts on even big stages, to be in custody of Manifest, Prijedor. BRC did some lobbying for Manifest in order to make the municipality of Prijedor to give them space for their activities. Now, Manifest have rented a private space in order to establish a rehearsal room and a studio for bands in Prijedor. And now Manifest has a complete setup for concerts, with PA and stage equipment, to be used for BRC concerts.

Now two of the NGO's in the network, Alterart (Travnik) and Manifest (Prijedor), has everything needed to equip even a larger stage, and not to let too much money from the cultural environment end up in the pockets of private sound companies. And this is just the start - BRC's strategy is to work for more member organisations to become self sustainable regarding equipment.

Enjoy the last tiny bit of summer, and then let's keep on rockin' (in) the free world!

Johannes Batzer, BRC's chairman

Kosovo revisited – the chairman's report

To do more with our contacts in Kosovo has for some time been a part of BRC's network strategy. Together with our primary local NGO, Mladez Mitrovicë, we planned a concert and a small NGO conference in Mitrovica, but it was delayed due to funding problems, and some even said that the situation in Kosovo was too difficult. In order to keep in touch, keep our credibility and to get first hand knowledge on the working conditions there, the BRC chairman went to Kosovo around 1 st of august. These are his observations and conclusions…

How are things in Mitrovica, then…

Primary target was to visit Feki in North Mitrovica. He is the key person in BRC's plans for the “Mitrovica Concert and NGO conference” project.

The original plan was to make a concert on a platform in the river Ibar, dividing Mitrovica in the southern and the northern part, and hereby making it an event for people on both sides. Feki showed me the place where they intended to have the concert, and I must say it's great: the platform is a perfect stage, and there is a stretch of steps and sidewalks for promenade on both sides, at the moment not in use, since the bridge was turned in to a fortress by KFOR.

But asked about the situation, Feki concluded that the concert on the river should wait till after the Status of Kosovo is finished. Then, he says, the situation will be relaxed enough to go through with his kind of event.

At the moment the situation is quite relaxed, much more than in autumn 2004 when the first and last Wired project in Kosovo happened. But many people are holding their breath while waiting for the status to be cleared.

Feki suggested that we should go on as planned, but make 2 separate concerts, one on each side, and gather all relevant persons at a 1 – 2 days conference to discuss cooperation, cultural environment and fundraising for joint projects. And wait for the status to be cleared, and them have a strong crew to work on the “Mitrovica Concert” on the river.

Support from Danish KFOR

Feki very efficiently set up a meeting with Major Nielsen, chief of CIMIC (civilian relations) section in the Danish KFOR. I ended up spending 3 hours in the camp. The major paid a great deal of interest to our work, and promised full support, not financially, but in terms of speaking our case with authorities, KFOR (an important security partner), and to help with logistics, like transport, generators/electricity and maybe even to build stuff like tents for backstage and stage construction if needed.

Besides, we talked about transportation of equipment from DK (possible) and to have bands coming to play in the camp to also play “civilian” concerts with our local partners.

I must say that my impression is that we have a good foundation for working in Mitrovica.

Mine clearance and repatriation of Romas

On my visit I was travelling with MetteKirstine, former Twinning Coordinator for Danish Youth Council, now Officer for European Matters in the same organisation, sitting with the last bit of Danish Youth Council influence on Twinning Platform. Besides Wired contacts we visited former Twinning employee Maria Vihl Vetting in Pristina, and former Wired coordinator and activist, Signe Noermose in Djakova.

Signe is now working for Danish Church Aid, as office manager on their West Kosovo/Northeast Albania mine clearance program. I got the chance to visit a very remote and poor part of Albania, and to come along with the deminers on their working routines in the beautiful mountains of Western Kosovo. Mine clearance is an important process for life to go on after a war. Hail to the deminers!

On the Wired project in 2004 we had great help from Danish Refugee Council's local staff in Mitrovica. They have now for some years been working on repatriating the city's Roma population to their former place of residence on the south side of the river. We paid them a visit to say hello and to hear about the situation. The repatriation process is finally so advanced that the will any day start to build houses on the plots where they used to be.

Ovakvim festivalom težimo unapređenju imidža Banjaluke ali i cijelog regiona dok pritom razvijamo i promovišemo lokalnu scenu i kreativne kapacitete i NVO sektor.

Pored njih nastupaju i Sound System-i, TRENCHTOWN, Muitashi, Martines, Skataniko, Unafected i drugi...

Happy New Year from the chairman of Balkan Rock Council, and a few scattered thoughts on genocide and war crimes

By Johannes Batzer, BRC's chairman of the board

Dear all in Wired Network, Balkan Rock Council and all people with cultural interest, thus visiting our website: May U have a happy and prosper new year.

Looking back at the one that passed, it has been the year where Wired Network took the major steps in the process of transforming the network into the umbrella organisation Balkan Rock Council. It has been a year with some successful activities, for some of us a lot of meetings and travelling, and also a year of frustration – specially due to the resource consuming bankruptcy of Wired's former “mother organisation”, Rytmisk Musik Danmark.

We are still waiting for some funds to arrive before starting the activities we planned for the last months of 2005 and the first half of 2006. But, as soon as they arrive, we will again stand tall and proud, to fight for a better cultural environment in SEE, and to hold high some basic humanistic values on which we rest our cultural engagement.

Most of the people reading this celebrated New Year on the night between 31.12. and 1.1., though some traditionally celebrates new year on the 14 th of January (correct me if I'm wrong). People of orthodox faith and citizens of orthodox countries and entities have the opportunity to celebrate twice.

Personally, I celebrated New Year in Cambodia, on the beach in Sihanoukville. When the hangovers were gone, I travelled the country until my return to Copenhagen yesterday, 17.1.06. Cambodia makes U think: The genocide museums, the landmines everywhere and the unfinished reconciliation process. Where did I see this before? U got it: The former Yugoslavia. Just after walking the grounds of mass graves, U can get to know how most of the Khmer Rouge leaders, killing a quarter of Cambodia's population, are not to be trailed for their crimes.
Pol Pot died of malaria as an older man, many of the footsoldiers of the genocide are living side by side with their former victims. The one legged general Ta Mok, known in the population as The Butcher, is in jail in Phnom Penh, awaiting a trial postponed several times. I visited his former residence, where he lived as a free man until 1998. And the main killings of Khmer Rouge happened from 1975 to 1978.
Another international event that makes U think: In the press we find reports on the hospitalized Israeli leader Ariel Sharon, in many articles and TV spots presented as the only guarantee for peace and stability in Israel and the Palestinian areas. Strange attributes for a man who's main characteristics can be shortly described as such: A notorious war criminal and a hardliner constantly feeding the fires of conflict in the Middle East . Apparently another war criminal that will never tried for his crimes.

But maybe 2006 will be a year where the process of seeking truth but also forgiveness will move the countries and people of ex-Yu in the right direction. And where creativity and quality living will flourish at concerts and events, wherever they may happen. With or without our interference.

Be brave, have fun and keep on rockin' in the free world!

See Ya suddenly!

Johannes
